Terms of Use
DavisStirling.org provides legal information, not legal advice. Before you act, check the current law and talk to a California attorney about your situation.
DavisStirling.org is operated by vBylding. By using the site, including through its MCP server or data files, you agree to these terms.
Not legal advice
Nothing on this site is legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. For advice about your situation, consult a California attorney. To confirm the current text of a statute, check California Legislative Information at leginfo.legislature.ca.gov.
Accuracy and currency
- Statute text is as retrieved from California Legislative Information on the date shown on each page.
- Laws change. Bills enacted in one year generally take effect on January 1 of the next, so the site can lag behind new law.
- The case library covers selected decisions, not every case.
- AI answers can be wrong. Check them against the text they cite.
- The site may contain errors.
The site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law permits, vBylding is not liable for damages arising from use of the site.
What is covered, and what is not
The site covers the Davis-Stirling Common Interest Development Act (Civil Code §§ 4000–6150) and a library of 189 California and federal court decisions interpreting it.
It does not cover:
- the Corporations Code, which governs much HOA corporate procedure;
- the Commercial and Industrial Common Interest Development Act (Civil Code §§ 6500–6876);
- local ordinances;
- federal law, beyond the few federal decisions in the library;
- an association’s own governing documents (CC&Rs, bylaws and rules), which often control.
Three kinds of content
Every part of the site is labeled as one of these:
- Source text. Statutes and court opinions, verbatim.
- DavisStirling material. Section titles, topics, plain-English explainers, case summaries (holdings, key principles and takeaways), landmark classifications and the connections between sections and cases.
- AI answers in the Ask feature. Each carries one of three labels: “AI answer · not reviewed”; “AI-checked answer” (checked by an AI model against the statute text, not by a person); or “Reviewed answer” (read by a person).
Most connections are computed from the source text itself; the rest were chosen during the AI review of each case. The written material was produced with AI. The case summaries and landmark classifications were drafted and reviewed by AI models under an adversarial review process, and checked against the opinion text. Section titles, topics, explainers and walkthroughs were drafted with AI, and not all of them have been reviewed by a person. None of it is the law’s or a court’s own words, and no attorney wrote or reviewed it.
When an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude uses DavisStirling through the MCP server, the assistant’s answer is its own. DavisStirling supplies the source text and labeled material; it does not review or control what the assistant says.
