Privacy
We collect very little, and nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts and no advertising. The site sets no cookies and does not track you across websites. We do not sell or share personal information.
DavisStirling.org is operated by vBylding. This page lists everything the site records, who else receives data, and how long it is kept.
Browsing the website
Pages are static files served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views in aggregate: which pages, referrers, countries and browser types. It uses no cookies and does not identify individual visitors.
Cloudflare also processes every request, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare’s own privacy policy. For requests handled by the site’s code (Ask, “Report a problem” and the MCP server), Cloudflare keeps request logs that can include your IP address. We use them only for troubleshooting, and they are deleted within 7 days.
The site stores one preference in your browser: the width you drag the side panel to. It never leaves your device.
The Ask feature
Ask gives AI-written answers to questions about the law. When you submit a question:
- Unless your question exactly matches one of the site’s reviewed answers, it is sent to Anthropic (the Claude API) to produce an answer. A follow-up also sends your previous question. A question about what is on the map also sends the sections and cases on screen. Anthropic acts as a service provider.
- A Cloudflare Turnstile check helps block bots.
- To enforce per-visitor question limits, the site keeps a counter under a salted hash of your IP address. Counters are deleted at the end of each day (UTC). Your IP address itself is not stored.
- To learn what people ask, the site keeps one record per question: the date (no time of day), the kind of answer given, whether it was a follow-up, the sections and cases used and those on screen, the cost, and a version of the question reworded by AI with identifying details removed. It holds no IP address and not your question as you typed it.
- The reworded question is deleted after 90 days. The rest of the record is kept for trends.
AI answers can be wrong, and they are labeled as AI answers.
Report a problem
If you report a problem with an answer, the site stores the question, the answer as shown, your note and the time, for 180 days, so the error can be fixed. A copy of the same report is emailed to us right away, through the email delivery service Resend, so we see it quickly. No IP address or identity is stored or sent with it. Please do not include personal information in a report.
AI assistants using the MCP server
AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can look up the law through our MCP server at https://davisstirling.org/mcp. We receive only what the assistant sends to a tool (for example, a search phrase), not your conversation. For each request, the site records:
- the date;
- which AI platform sent it (for example OpenAI or Anthropic), worked out from the request itself or the platform’s published network addresses;
- the tool called, whether it succeeded, and how long it took;
- the public law and case identifiers returned;
- the response size and the corpus version.
For the search tool only, it also records the search text, with emails, links, phone numbers, street addresses and unit numbers removed, cut to 120 characters. That text is deleted after 90 days.
These records never include IP addresses, location information a platform may send, platform user or session identifiers, other tool arguments, or the responses. To apply rate limits, the site may use OpenAI’s anonymous user identifier (“openai/subject”) or the IP address for up to a minute. It does not store either.
Who else receives data
- Cloudflare hosts and protects the site, runs Web Analytics and Turnstile, and keeps the request logs described above.
- Anthropic receives Ask questions to produce answers.
- Resend delivers the email copy of each problem report to us.
Nothing you submit is ever published on the site. The site publishes only public law and DavisStirling’s own material.
Do Not Track
The site does not track visitors across websites or over time, so it treats every visit the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. No third party collects information about your activity across websites through this site.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information.
Your choices and requests
Because we keep no identifying data, we usually cannot find records about a specific person. Questions about this policy are still welcome: support@davisstirling.org.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and describe material changes on this page.
